We value young people in our community and are committed to providing opportunities. Below you will find information and support for young people that live, study or play in Holdfast Bay.

National Youth Week (NYW)

National Youth Week (NYW) is the largest celebration of young people in Australia. Thousands of young people aged 12 - 25 from across Australia get involved in NYW each year.

NYW 2017 will run from 31 March to 9 April and the theme is youTHRIVE – the importance of young South Australian's physical, mental, emotional and social wellbeing.

You can get involved in NYW 2017 by:

  • sharing your ideas
  • getting involved in the planning, organising and running of NYW events and activities
  • getting on board and attend NYW activities, workshops and events
  • showcasing your talents
  • celebrating your contributions to the community

National Youth Week

Youth Achievement Sponsorship Program

The Youth Achievement Sponsorship Program is to recognise and encourage the achievements of young people in the community. Council acknowledges the importance of recognising and reinforcing positive youth role models and is proud to offer support to these individuals. The aim of the Youth Achievement Sponsorship Program is to provide sponsorship for State and/ or Australian representation in the sporting and cultural activities.

Holdfast Bay Youth Survey

Thank you to the 191 young people who filled in the Holdfast Bay Youth Survey and provided us with some great information to assist us with planning activities for the school holidays and National Youth Week and when working with schools.

Some Key Findings

Requested Activities - The highest rating activity requested by young people was different come and try sports followed by training and exercise programs, gigs and live music events and workshops around getting your license.

Highlighted Concerns - The concern most worrying young people was balancing school work, work commitments and sport and their social life. This was followed by bullying and harassment via social media and the stress of study requirements and pressures to make career choices.

On the Same Wave Program

On the Same Wave is an annual beach safety event to help educate young people that are new to Australia about beach and sea safety.

The event is run annually by Surf Life Saving SA and is supported by several local councils including the City of Holdfast Bay. This event is specifically for young people aged 12 - 18 who are new arrivals, refugees and migrants.

Southern Youth Network Collective (SYNC)

The Southern Youth Network Collective was born out of the merging of the South Western Youth Workers Network (SWYN) and the Southern Youth Workers Network (SYN) in March of 2012. The aim of the network is to provide a more robust and sustainable network for youth workers in the south to access networking tools, collaboration opportunities, information and professional support.

Membership

SYNC's current membership includes; federal, state and local government organisations, non-government and community based organisations, schools, youth workers, community health workers and students.

SYNC members represent a variety of organisations and come from diverse backgrounds. Anyone who works with young people in the southern region of Adelaide is invited to become a member.

SYNC Meeting Times
All SYNC meetings are held on the third Thursday of every month from 9.30am to 11.00am with venues alternating between the inner and outer southern suburbs. Please contact SYNC to find out where the next meeting will be held.
